AGM – steady as she goes

July 15th, 2010

The DUCC Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday July 8, and last year’s committee was re-elected unopposed:

President – John Franklin

Secretary – Neill Hocking

Treasurer – Peter Still

Strategic Advisor 1 – Geoff Wilkie

Strategic Advisor 2 – Alister Wilkie

Juniors – Craig Atkins

Cultural and Horticultural attache – Michael Seeley

Discussions were held on various topics, with the redevelopment of the Hays Paddock rooms and the possibility of an U/19s team high on the agenda. In terms of senior teams, the status quo prevails: 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and LOC teams, with a motion passed unanimously that the 2nds and LOC teams must win the flag this season, along with the 1sts and 3rds who will be going back to back!!

If you have any questions about the AGM, please don’t hesitate to contact John Franklin.

Keep an eye out for full pre-season training dates to be posted soon. Contact Pat Gregory regarding a rumoured training session tomorrow morning (Saturday 17th July) at Hays Paddock.

AGM on July 8

June 28th, 2010

On Thursday 8th July the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Deepdene Uniting C.C. will be held at Club Hawthorn commencing at 8.00pm.

So, if you have been planning a coup over the winter months to overthrow the current dictatorship, now is the time to rally your troops and make your move.  Otherwise, you could just come along and be involved in the major decision making for the club.

Some of the items to be discussed:

• Progress and input on the development of the pavilion at Hays Paddock

• Possible 5th side

• U/19 side

• Juniors

If anyone is keen to join the Committee or be more involved in such things as Juniors or Social Events I would be very keen to hear from you prior to the night.

Anyway, look forward to seeing all of you there.  The Bistro is now open at Club Hawthorn if individuals want a feed prior to the meeting, but I will leave that to the individuals to organise if required.

See you on the 8th at 8pm.

John Franklin

President

Match Report: 3rd XI B2 Grand Final vs Blackburn North

March 25th, 2010

[Editor's note: this match report takes the form of a screenplay of an as yet unmade epic movie.]

EXT. BURNHAM’S BACK YARD – MORNING OF THE 13TH

A lone figure with a lit cigarette in one hand braces himself while leaning over some garden furniture, dry retching. He pauses to swig some coffee from a mug balanced nearby, only to immediately heave the contents onto the lawn.

INT. HOWARD DAWSON RESERVE – CLUBHOUSE

The sun beams down on a grassy oval in a well-healed suburb of Melbourne. A rabble of cricketers finish up their pre-match warm up and collect in the club house to make their final preparations.

BURBS: Alright fellas, this is the big day. Now I want you to remember two things. First, this is what we’ve all been working for all year. No game is more important. There is no runner up. Remember the pain of last year? We don’t want to go there again. And second… this is just like any other game of cricket. Nothing’s different — just go out and play your normal game. Got that?

KERN: But you just said…

BURBS: Good. Now I’ve let the other guy win the toss just to lull him into a false sense of security, so get your whites on, we’re bowling.

Grand Final Results

March 20th, 2010

The Deeners have finished the 2009/10 season on a high, winning two of the three contested premierships, making this our most impressive haul in 27 years. The First XI regained possession of the Macgibbon Shield after coming very close 3 years running, while the Third XI successfully completed the highest run chase in the ECA in tense circumstances to take the B2 Merrell Shield. The Second XI fell agonisingly short in a tense low scoring game after a perfect winning record for the season. Results:

Macgibbon Shield: Deepdene Uniting 4/118 def Wyclif 117

A1: Trinity Willison 124 def Deepdene Uniting 121

B2: Deepdene Uniting 8/247 def Blackburn North United 246
