Andrew ‘Roo’ Hocking has belted his maiden century for the Deeners in a comprehensive victory over Burwood Uniting Canterbury at Lynden Park Upper. The Deeners posted a healthy 5/288 from their allotted 40 overs with Michael Leeds (77) and Shaun Lorenzini (57) providing great support to the Rampaging Roo. In reply, BUC could only manage 138, with Pat ‘Strings’ Gregory snaring 3/41, Al ‘The Wizard’ Wyatt 3/8 and James ‘Remember My Hat Trick’ Rogers 2/17.
After the match, Roo was typically modest, saying, “My goal is to be the greatest Hocking ever, and I think I’ve taken a step in the right direction today. After reaching my hundred, my main goal was to better my cousin Mark’s personal score of 110, which I managed to do. Once I reached that goal, I wasn’t much interested in hanging around.” Roo was out for 111.
It is believed that, on hearing of Roo’s feat, Mark immediately booked tickets back to Australia from his ice cave in Scandinavia and will arrive back in time to challenge Roo in his goal later in the season.
Congratulations Roo!
