Club Code of Conduct Policy

The Deepdene Uniting Cricket Club (DUCC) expects that all matches will be conducted in the true spirit of the game of cricket. Winning is only part of the pleasure to be derived from playing the game. ATTITUDE and SPORTSMANSHIP are also vital ingredients.

To achieve these objectives, all Players, Coaches and Captains are to adopt the following code of behaviour.

• A standard of dress will be maintained on the field which is commensurate with the traditions of the game.

• All club equipment, property and facilities shall be treated with respect (on and off the field).

• Umpires are to be respected at all times and their decisions are to be accepted without dissent. Players shall not dispute any decision given by an umpire, nor react in a disapproving manner.

• All players shall co-operate with the opposing Captain and Umpires in the 'running' of the game.

• Captains and Coaches shall brief players on what is expected of them in terms of behaviour both on and off the field.

• Avoid making unnecessary and/or uncomplimentary remarks to opponents.

• Visiting teams and Umpires are guests at our Club and should be treated as such.

• Players shall at all times show respect towards his captain/coach and accept his/her judgment without argument.

• Behaviour off the field, when representing DUCC (within the grounds of the DUCC or at away games) will be of the highest standard. No player shall bring the Club's reputation into disrepute.

• No swearing or offensive language shall be used, on or off the field, which will offend any member, supporter, or visitor of the DUCC.

Any financial penalty incurred by the Club as a result of an indiscretion will be paid by that member. The Club will not clear or transfer a member to another club whilst the fine is outstanding. The member will also be required to attend or deliver education programs relevant to the indiscretion.

A player is merely a custodian in the history of the club. A player’s actions and behaviour will dictate the future culture of the DUCC. It is expected that each player continues to help build the Club’s culture in a positive way for future players and members to enjoy.

Parents Code of Behaviour

Some of the greatest role models we have in our cricketing community are our parents. When assisting and supporting at Deeners' games please keep in mind the codes of behaviour listed below:

  • Do not force an unwilling child to participate in cricket;

  • Remember, children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not yours;

  • Encourage your child to play by the rules;

  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing;

  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game;

  • Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skillful play by all participants;

  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities;

  • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise;

  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate;

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

  • Be aware of and follow the Codes of Conduct and Policies of Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia.

The Deener Way

 a)            We are doing a lot of work to continue to enjoy a club that is welcoming to people of any background, inclusive and diverse in its make up

b)            We want to ensure the club remains a sport for all, across players, administrators, volunteers and supporters

c)            We embrace the ‘spirit of cricket’ and its values – including but not limited to Respect for;

  • opponents and their club members

  • our own team mates, administrators, officials, supporters and volunteers

  • the role of the umpires

  • the game and its traditional values

d)            We’re a family club – surviving on the input of everyone – from parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, coaches, and administrations. It will be expected that at some stage during the year a family member will provide assistance in a voluntary capacity in line with their experience – (support and education will be made available where required)

e)            We like our 1st XI to be fiercely competitive and motivated by winning every time they take the field – but underpinning our club culture is enjoying the company of team mates and club members beyond the boundary line. We want our members to enjoy their involvement off the pitch as well as on it.
